New Delhi, Apr 2 (ANI): With the political battle intensifying for the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) polls scheduled on April 15, several independent candidates in the fray this time are approaching the members of civil society to campaign for them.
Leaders of various political outfits are leaving no stones unturned in campaigning for their candidates in respective areas. Actor turned politician Raj Babbar campaigned for the Congress candidate on April 1.
The independent candidates claim to fight against corruption, and look forward to get the support of veteran social activist Anna Hazare and his team.
The independent candidates hope to play major role in the MCD elections this time.
Team Anna member Manish Sisodia told Asian News International (ANI) that he is now receiving call from independent candidates for campaigning in the MCD polls.
Some of the candidates here want Anna Hazare himself to come and participate in the election campaigns. Team Anna has, however, so far, not given assurance to any of the candidates in this regard.
It may be recalled here that Team Anna had campaigned against the ruling Congress Party in the Hisar by-polls last year. Team Anna was criticized for this move.
However, they again jumped into the battlefield during the Uttar Pradesh assembly polls, where they urged the voters not to vote for the corrupt.
Team Anna so far appears to be wary about taking an active part in the MCD elections. By Ashutosh Mishra (ANI)
