Harvard University: Harvard University celebrated its 364th anniversary in 2010, and is the oldest institution of higher learning in the United States. It has the largest financial endowment, standing at $27.4 billion as of September 2010. The University has grown from nine students with a single master to 2,100 faculty to teach and advise, approximately 6,700 undergraduates and 14,500 graduate and professional students. Harvard is also the alma mater of sixty-two living billionaires, the most in the country.
World’s first University: Takshashila was established in 700 B.C., is supposed to be the World’s first University. Students from foreign countries also registered for studies in more than 60 streams of knowledge there.
The Oldest University in the English-speaking World: Oxford, the oldest university in the English-speaking World, is unique and historic. There is no clear date of foundation, but teaching existed at Oxford in some form in 1096 and developed rapidly from 1167, when Henry II banned English students from attending the University of Paris.
25 PMs of UK came from Oxford: 25 Prime Ministers of UK came from the Oxford alumni. It also has 39 independent self-governing colleges. Three time Olympic gold medal winner Matthew Pinsent rowed for Oxford in 1990, 1991 and 1993. Read more………….
