Akhilesh Yadav on Saturday demanded a judicial probe in the Batla House encounter case, accusing the Congress of doublespeak on the issue during his 3-day campaign in Azamgarh.
Akhilesh, who stayed in the Shibli College campus like Rahul, also talked about reservation for the Muslim community, another issue fanned by the Congress this election. Addressing rallies in Azamgarh, the SP leader said the Congress was cheating the Muslims. “When they go to Punjab they say they have given 4.5 per cent reservations to Sikh. And when they come to Uttar Pradesh they claim to have given 4.5 per cent reservation to Muslims,” said Akhilesh, noting that the 4.5 per cent quota within the OBC reservation actually covered all minorities, including Sikhs, Jains, Buddhists, Parsis, Christians as well as Muslims.
“If proper calculation is done, Muslims will be eligible for less than 1 per cent of the reservation,” he said. On the other hand, if the SP was voted back to power in the state, Akhilesh added, Muslims would get more reservation than in any other state.
Accusing the Congress of trying to confuse the voters by talking about a “compromise” in the state elections, he said the Congress and BJP were just minor players. The fight in the state was between the SP and BSP, he said.
