New Delhi, Sep 27 (ANI): A delegation of Kashmir village council members met Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi here on Thursday and sought his assistance over secure working conditions of village headmen.
The village head of Kokernag of Jammu and Kashmir, Khurshid Malik, said that they put forth demands seeking Rahul Gandhi’s intervention and claimed that he assured to support for the empowerment.
“Rahulji told us that they would fully support us. He talked to the chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir and they would support us,” he added.
“We had a very cordial meeting and he told us that his party and the Soniaji is going to support for the empowerment,” he told mediapersons after meeting Rahul Gandhi.
The meeting assumed greater significance as it came a day after Rahul Gandhi openly hit out at the Omar Abdullah Government, saying sarpanches were given no power.
The meeting took place in the wake of killings of panchs and sarpanches in Jammu and Kashmir. (ANI)
