Congress MP and sports minister Ajay Maken is adamant and saying he would push hard for the good sports bill to be passed. “People want to know money expenditure by BCCI and it’s people’s money not BCCI’s”, said Maken.
“BCCI is getting tax rebate, they get subsidy, they are getting many other benefits from the government, so what’s the problem in coming under RTI, asks sports minister ?
When the sports bill was introduced in the cabinet many ministers including Sharad Pawar, Farooq Abdullah, Vilasrao Deshmukh, Kapil Sibal, Praful Patel, CP Joshi and some others opposed the bill strongly. Interestingly, all of them are related to different sports bodies.
Though PM Manmohan Singh and P Chidambaram were agree but no one took them seriously. Sharad Pawar ignoring PM even said, “I would talk to Sonia ji about this”. PM is bigger in India so he should have obeyed him.
On the other hand, many sports persons have praised Maken’s bill and said, “Indians have right to know about the expenses made by BCCI, it’s not their personal money so they should not fear”.
