We all know that India had been a land of princely states for a long time, the states being ruled by aristocratic families and their heirs. After India gained independence, the country was to be made into a democracy and the princely states were dissolved to be integrated into the government states. However, even after 67 years of independence, the inheritors of these princely states continue to have a strong foothold in the Indian politics.

Known for his blunt remarks over worldwide political scenarios, this General Secretary of the All India Congress Committee is a royal from the present state of Madhya Pradesh. His father, late Shri Balbhadra Singh was the ruler of the princely state of Raghogarh, in the present-day Guna district of Madhya Pradesh.
The current Union Minister of State for the Ministry of Power, Jyotiraditya Madhavrao Scindia is the son of late Shri Madhav Rao Jivajirao Scindia, the titular Maharaja of Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh. The Scindias have been the rulers of Gwalior from as early as the latter half of the 18th century and George Jivajirao Scindia, Jyotiraditya’s grandfather was the last reigning Maharaja.
First cousin of Jyotiraditya Scindia, Dushyant is the son of Vasundhara Raje Scindia and Maharaj Hemant Singh Dholpur, the last recognized king of Dholpur, Rajasthan. He is a member of the Lok Sabha, representing the Jhalawar-Baran constituency as a member of BJP.
Or his higness Maharao Kunvar Ijyaraj Singh, as he is called by the people of Kotah, is an MP from Kota. He is the former prince of the state of Kotah, belonging to its royal family.

She is the daughter of Raj Rajeshwar Maharajadhiraj Shri Hanwant Singh of Jodhpur, and belongs to the royal family of Dhrangadhra, Gujarat, from her mother’s side. She is married to Aditya Katoch, the 488th king of Kangra, Himachal Pradesh. She represents Jodhpur from the Congress party in Lok Sabha. She has been active in politics from more than 40 years now.
A member of Rajasthan Legislative Assembly from the Sawai Madhopur constituency, she is the daughter of Sawai Bhawani Singh, the titular Maharaja of Jaipur and Padmini Devi. She is the granddaughter of Rajmata Gayatri Devi of Jaipur, who was also very active in Indian politics in her lifetime.
