New Tamil Nadu Congress chief B S Gnanadesikan today met Sonia Gandhi here and resolved to strengthen the party unit in the state by taking along everyone. Gnanadesikan, a Rajya Sabha member and a known loyalist of Union Shipping Minister G K Vasan, took over as new chief of the Tamil Nadu Congress Committee in Chennai on Wednesday.
This is what I told her,” he told reporters after the meeting. This is the first time that Gnanadesikan is meeting Gandhi after taking over his assignment. 62-year-old Gnanadesikan, who replaced K V Thangkabalu after he was removed from the post last week, has already asked senior leaders to tour the state and interact with party workers in a bid to strengthen the party.
During his meeting with Gandhi, Gnanadesikan thanked her for “imposing faith” in him and appointing him as the chief of the state Congress unit. “I promised her that I would take everyone along and strengthen the Congress in the state.
