Chennai has emerged as India’s fastest-growing destination for international brands that helped the city beat bigger rivals such as Mumbai and Delhi in retail space absorption in the first three quarters of 2013.

According to the report, The city, famous for Kanjivaram sarees, led the charts with 1.78 million sq ft of fresh retail space in January-September 2013 as global retailers such as Zara, Tommy Hilfiger, Benetton and Marks & Spencer opened new stores.

Mumbai, Delhi-NCR and Bangalore together accounted for 2.9 million sq ft of new retail space during this period.
