It was a busy news year in South Asia, with events that will have far-reaching consequences for the region. Two-year-old Peanut becomes ‘World’s Ugliest Dog’ 2014

A two-year-old dog named Peanut has been named the ‘World’s Ugliest Dog’ at a contest in California. He’s certainly no oil painting – but owners and judges said that Peanut’s bulging eyes, crooked teeth and wild hair disguised an otherwise loving and lively spirit. Holly Chandler, Peanut’s adoring owner, said the Chihuahua-Shitzu mixed breed was seriously hurt as a puppy – and she now intends to use the $1,500 (£882) prize money to pay for other animals’ vet bills. The scale of national elections in India is vaster than that of United States and Europe combined, the evidence of which is in the humungous numbers. Over 814.5 million eligible voters will cast their ballot through Electronic Voting Machines that would be set up in 9,30,000 polling stations across the country. These elections would not just be the longest, but also the costliest with an estimated spend of Rs 3500 crore, and this excludes the expenditure on security and campaigning by candidates. Clearly, despite all […]
