Chimpanzees can quickly identify the faces like humans do

Chimpanzees can quickly identify the faces of other chimps, as well as those of human adults and babies. These new findings could shed light on human and chimp evolution, scientists say. Faces are key to human social lives, conveying key data about how one feels. As such, humans are wired to pay special attention to faces. For example, when pictures of faces are mixed in with pictures of other items such as cars and houses, people can detect the faces effortlessly. Contributed By Sonia Narula

Chimpanzees follow fashion trends just like humans: Research

It seems chimpanzees also follow fashion trends just like humans. The latest trend noticed in one chimpanzee group by the researchers has been named “grass-in-the-ear” behavior. We know that chimpanzees learn from one another and accrding to the researchers this case is a perfect example of the old adage “monkey see, monkey do,” writes Nature World News. The researchers looked at 94 chimpanzees living in four different social groups in the sanctuary during the course of the study and found that one of the four […]

Chimpanzees can outsmart humans at some simple strategy games: Research

Don’t underestimate the brainpower of a chimp — new research suggests chimpanzees are better than humans at some simple strategy games. The researchers had chimps play a game in which the animals sat back to back facing computers and took turns selecting one of two blue boxes on the screen. The chimps learned the game more quickly compared to undergraduate students who also played in a separate round. Chimps were able to play so well because they have strong short-term memory and talents for pattern […]

Chimpanzees Can Play Video Games Better than human: Study

Look out, gamers: chimpanzees might be coming for your high scores. Panzee, a 22-year-old female chimp, significantly outperformed 12 children and 4 adults on a complex maze in a virtual-reality computer game. Researchers pitted four adult chimps against twelve human children ranging from 3 to 12 years old, and four adult humans. The chimpanzees tended to do about as well as the kids between 3 and 6 years old, completing the maze in a similar amount of time. The humans and chimps were both evenly […]
